Glossary: words you will see in the panel
Short answer: Plain-English meanings of the technical words used in the Game Panel, the Client Area and these guides.

| Activity | The log of who did what in the Game Panel, and when. See the Activity page |
| Address | Your server’s IP address and port together, such as 203.0.113.10:2456. Players type this to join. See How to find your server IP address and connection port |
| Backup | A saved copy of your server’s worlds, saves and settings. See How to create and restore a backup |
| Backup slot | Room for one backup. Every plan includes 2 |
| Client Area | Our billing site, client.hostitcreateit.com: orders, invoices, tickets |
| Config file | A text file the game reads for its settings, such as server.properties |
| Console | The live text output from your game server, and the box where you type server commands |
| Cron | A compact way of writing schedules, such as 0 4 * * * for 04:00 every day. You only need it under Advanced in the scheduler |
| Game Panel | Our server control site, panel.hostitcreateit.com |
| Game Settings | A page that changes common game options with menus instead of editing config files (supported games only) |
| IP address | The number that identifies the machine your server runs on, such as 203.0.113.10 |
| Lock (backup) | Protects a backup from being replaced by the nightly backup |
| Log | A text record the game writes as it runs. Errors appear here. See How to view server logs and share them with support |
| Mod | An add-on that changes or extends a game. Also called plugins or Workshop items. See Installing mods from the Mods page |
| Offline / Starting / Online / Stopping | The states of your server, shown next to its name |
| Port | The number after the colon in your address. It tells the game which server on a machine is yours. See What is a port, and which ones does my game use? |
| Query port | A second port some games use to answer the server browser. Players don’t type it |
| Reinstall | Running the game’s setup again. Can delete files. See How to reinstall or reset a game server |
| Restore | Putting a backup’s files back onto your server |
| Schedule | A task that runs automatically, such as a nightly restart. See Setting up automatic restarts and backups with schedules |
| SFTP | A secure way to move files between your computer and your server with an app like FileZilla. See How to connect to your server using SFTP |
| Startup | The page with the settings your game reads when it starts. See Changing startup settings |
| Steam Workshop | Valve’s mod catalogue for Steam games |
| Subuser | Someone you give limited access to your server in the Game Panel. See Giving a friend or moderator access with subusers |
| Suspended | Your server is stopped and locked, usually because of an unpaid invoice. See Why is my server suspended? |
| Two-step verification (2FA) | A 6-digit code from an app on your phone, needed when you sign in |
| Whitelist / allow list | A list of players allowed to join. Set inside the game’s own settings |
