Inviting friends: sharing your address and password
Short answer: Send your friends two things: the server Address from the Console page, and the server password (if you set one). Never share your Game Panel or Client Area login.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”- You need: access to your server’s Console and Startup pages.
- Time needed: 2 minutes.
What this guide covers
Section titled “What this guide covers”- What to send players
- Where to find the server password
- Letting someone help run the server
- Go to [Game Panel] > [Your Server] and select Copy next to the address at the top of the page.
- Find the server password. It’s on the Game Settings page for games that have one, or on Startup (often called “Server Password” or “Password”: the name depends on the game).
- Send both to your friends, along with the game version they need (shown in the console when the server starts).
- If your server uses mods, send the mod list too. See Players need the same mods: joining a modded server.
Letting someone help run the server
Section titled “Letting someone help run the server”To give a friend or moderator access to the Game Panel for your server (for example to restart it), add them as a subuser. They get their own login and only the permissions you choose. See Giving a friend or moderator access with subusers.
Expected result
Section titled “Expected result”Your friends can join using the address and password.
Common mistakes
Section titled “Common mistakes”- Sending the address without the port. The number after the colon is part of the address.
- Sharing your Game Panel login. Anyone with it can delete your server’s files. Use subusers instead.
- Changing the password and forgetting to restart. Most games read the password only when they start.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Friends get “wrong password” | Typo, or the server hasn’t restarted since a change | Check the password; restart the server |
| Friends get “not whitelisted” | Your game uses an allow list | Add their player name or ID (see your game’s guide in Game Guides) |
| Friends can’t find the server | Browser lists can be slow | Join by address: see My server is not showing in the game browser |
When to contact support
Section titled “When to contact support”Contact support if nobody can join with the correct address and password while the server is Online. See I cannot connect to my server first.
